There Are No Boundaries To Desire

Or so the tagline goes for the new show I’m composing for, ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore, which will play at the Everyman Playhouse in Liverpool later this year.

From the Everyman Playhouse site:

After the death of her mother, Annabella is left to face adolescence alone.
When her elder brother Giovanni returns home, he propels them both into a dangerous world of sexual transgression and youthful revolt. Together they crash through the boundaries of what can be said, what can be read, what to believe and who you can love.

First unleashed by John Ford in 1633, ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore is one of the most shocking and powerful theatre stories of all time.

Gotta admit, I was a bit taken a back by the subject matter, and after talking to the director, Chris Meads, I see how relevant the topics of unbridled passion and railing against the authorities that be are to a theatre like the Everyman, which has a history of going against the grain.

Alongside Tis Pity, I’m also scoring Anthology, which is an epic undertaking that I’m very excited about. More on that soon.

In tandem with Anthology, a Slung Low co-production, these shows will see the old Everyman Playhouse building decommissioned – the building will be demolished… to make way for a brand-spanking new vision of the theatre.

‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore will play at the Everyman Liverpool Playhouse from 16th September to 30 October.
