other bits & bobs

Everything else that doesn’t quite fit in elsewhere…

I sat on RTS (Yorkshire) Award Juries for Music in 2022 and Production Excellence in 2023, the 2021 Ivors Award Jury for Game Music, the 2017 BASCA Ivor Novello Award Jury for Television Music, and 2013 BAFTA Craft Award Jury for Original Music.

I’ve spoken on panels for events by PRS and The Ivors Academy (How To Place Your Music In Film & TV, Writing Music for Other People, Writing Music for Animation) and Site Gallery Sheffield (Soundscapes for Theatre).

I was a Composer Mentor for Help Musicians UK 2020-22.

In 2018, Flood: To The Sea (BBC2/Slung Low, 2017) won the RTS Yorkshire Award for Production Excellence.

I’ve written exclusive sync tracks for  PremiumBeat, Melodie, and Synctracks production libraries

On the strength of my score to Helium (Barbican/Slung Low 2008) I was invited to join Punchdrunk Theatre Company for a two-week residence at the Sundance Theatre Lab 2008 at White Oak Plantation in Florida.

I was the Composer-in-Residence for the Arthur C. Clarke Award in 2009. For the award ceremony that year, I wrote and produced 3 pieces that reflected the spirit of quotations from the great man himself, and a longer piece that incorporated all of these themes that was played at the award ceremony.

I was Sound Mentor for both:

Global Stories 2007
Helping two teams of young people to create two short films, from script creation to screen, in only 8 days. I joined them for production and post-production, helping them to record the best sound on the shoot, through to mixing, a little bit of foley and atmos cleanup and scoring a few last minute piano moments to help the story along.

Screen Yorkshire Caught Short: Focus 2004 and 2005
Similar in style to Global Stories, this was epic in proportion. 10 short films were created from signed-off script to screen in 5 days.

I’ve given talks to university and school students about film music, sound design and the career of a composer.
