Day 9 of #wpad…

I’ve made my peace with the To Do list.
I accept that it’s never-ending.
That I’ll never truly complete it. Maybe I’ll get close… but then a new request, idea or task will always appear.
That there’s plenty of inconsequential useless things on there that for some reason need to be done.
It’s ok because on any given work day there’s always one big important task that I really want to do – the tunes (well, dur). And plenty of fun stuff on there too – you gots to have a reward.
The To Do list serves a higher purpose though: by getting that list out of my head and onto the page, I create room upstairs to work on that one big important task. I can be a little prone to rumination, turning that infinite list over and over, but this simple act of making it real and finite destroys its hold on my mental energy. It’s not a new or revolutionary concept, but it works for me.
So the list goes on the page, then I forget about it. It’s not going anywhere now so I’ve no need to pay it heed.
