I've started the score for the next instalment of Slung Low's Flood this week. 'To The Sea' is part 3 of the year-long project for Hull City of Culture. Flood: To The Sea will be broadcast on BBC2 on Saturday, 12th August at 9pm. It's live theatre, and the action takes place on and in the …

So here goes: when I first heard about the show Blood + Chocolate, I didn't want to do it. Now, this isn't a new phenomenon for me. It's just the lizard brain going into overdrive protective mode whenever I'm presented with a project that I can't quite wrap my head around. I just ignore the feeling and accumulate more facts and ideas from the people who know more of them, and eventually, I come around and start looking forward to it.

The piece explores erosion, both of landscape and of the mind, presenting shifting, beautifully surreal and blurred perceptions of reality. It uses the language of landscapes to discuss disappearance and the ephemerality of moments within our lives and looks at memory not as a link to the past but the construction of a present “reality”.

Sold out at the Barbican in October, They Only Come At Night: Visions is moving to the Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield, next week (23-28th November, 2009). So if you didn't get your ticket before they all sold …

Whenever music will enable us to do this, that's when we use it.
