The White Whale is up and running. It’s sold out and the waiting list has been closed. Some people are resorting to turning up on the night just in case there are audience member no-shows (I’m not suggesting this as a viable course of action, but I understand that needs must etc.).
If you have a ticket and are yet to see the play, I heartily recommend waiting ’til you have before you check out these images: there are photos from behind the scenes taken by James Phillips here; and very spoilery pics from the dress rehearsal here.
For anyone of an animal-friendly persuasion, doesn’t know the story of Moby Dick well and is cautious of supporting anything vaguely whaling-related, I’m really quite pleased to say you won’t be disappointed. I’m not giving anything away by saying that, as metaphor for all-consuming obsession, the eponymous White Whale has his revenge and those pesky humans get their come-uppance. Needless to say, I quite enjoyed working on this show.
