Camelot: The Shining City

Client: Slung Low

Writer: James Phillips

Director: Alan Lane

Music by Heather Fenoughty

In 2015 an army of 137 performers from the Sheffield People’s Theatre performed James Phillips’ contemporary reworking of the King Arthur myths.

Set a little in the future – Camelot: The Shining City is the story of Bear, an orphan who leads a revolution to become England’s new Queen before the revolution overtakes even her.

Performed in the Crucible theatre and outside in the city, Camelot played nightly to sell-out audiences of 600. The show sprawled out into the city’s public squares bringing pageantry, sword fighting, gunplay and even a flame-throwing tank to the streets of Sheffield.

Camelot: The Shining City was a co-production with Sheffield Theatres.
