tailor-made: music especially for you.

How would you feel knowing you’ve saved yourself hours and hours searching through hundreds of thousands of library tracks to find music that only sort of fits your project? Instead, we’ll tailor-make a soundtrack that fits your vision like a glove and takes your project to the next level. Contact me and let’s chat about how I can help.

Still have a few questions, or have never worked with a composer before? Here are the answers to the most common questions I get asked.

Is it expensive?
It might not be that expensive at all. It depends on what you need. It costs more to hire a composer than, say, license music, as the music is being written especially for you – like a tailored, bespoke suit. It costs a little more, but it fits much better and your project looks and sounds so much better for it. It’ll be all the more effective and fit-for-purpose, and in the long run you’ll probably find you get more bang for your buck.

If you’re on a tight budget we can also talk about the different ways you can license the music to suit your needs. Get in touch for a free, no-obligation quote.

Will it be difficult to talk to you about music? Will I have to know musical terms?
Really, at it’s basic level, music is emotion, and if you know how you and your audience wants to feel when they watch your production and hear the music, then you’re home and dry. In fact, even if you do know musical terms, it’s still sometimes easier to convey what you want from your composer by talking about the tone of the piece and the emotional journey of your audience.

Will it take a long time?
Every project is different, although I’m actually rather a fast composer in comparison to the average, without ever compromising on quality, so it may take less time than you think. We’ll agree schedules and deadlines in advance, which will always be met.

How do you deliver music?
Music and sound files will be delivered as AIFF or WAV, stereo mix, any sample and bit rate you like. My standard is 48Khz, 24-bit. I can deliver online via Dropbox or FTP (yours or mine), on Data CD or DVD, or Audio CD. I can delivery preliminary or intermediate mixes to your picture as compressed Quicktime movies, so that you can watch them straight away without waiting for your editor to import them. I can deliver in many other formats too, if required, including MP3.

I don’t know what all those technical terms mean!
Easily remedied: I can find out from your editor or sound technician what the specifics are for your project and work directly with them so you don’t have to be the go-between.

What if I don’t like the music you write?
Fear not! Let me know, I don’t bite (or cry ;-) ). The process of commissioning music is a dialogue and there are usually revisions when working with a composer for the first time. I have a thick skin and take constructive criticism in an objective fashion. The music is written for you and I want you to be more than happy with it. Depending on the size of the project, one or two revisions to some cues is normal. Also, I always factor in redrafting so we’ll still be on schedule.

The next time we work together, it will be much easier as I’ll know your working style and what sort of things you like (and what you don’t like!).

Do I have to know anything about copyright law?
Operating under British Law, I’ll explain everything you need to know in plain english and we’ll draw up a standard agreement to make sure you have all the licenses you need to use the music exactly how you want to.

Can I talk to people who’ve worked with you before to get their opinions and review of working with you?
References are available – contact me and I’ll forward you the details for referees. In the meantime, you can read testimonials of all of my happy customers!

I want music for a different kind of project – it’s a theatre show/multimedia production/presentation. Can you help me with this?
Many of the projects I’ve worked on were in new media, on different platforms or were live productions. The best way to be sure is to contact me with all the details of your project and we can take it from there.
