Hello there my lovelies.

I would like to take this opportunity for a little bit of shameless self-promotion…

Moth To A Flame, a short film that I scored back in 2007 (that sounds like it’s ages ago!) is currently being screened on the Rollem Productions (Band of Gold, Fat Friends) Site as winning ‘Short of the Month’. Yay!

The film is lovely with loads of heart, some fab acting; it’s well-paced and beautifully shot. This one was a real joy to score. There was loads of opportunity for musical themes and thematic development; the plot was epic whilst in the guise of personal, everyday stories that were easy to relate to, allowing room for some seriously cinematic tunes!

Moth to a Flame was funded by Screen Yorkshire, and the UK Film Council. It was produced by Kathryn Penny and directed by Kevin Tams (Kev won ‘Best Director’ at CAN Leicester Short Film Festival for this film).

John Hunter, the writer, shares his thoughts on the process of bringing Moth to a Flame from page to screen:

As my first official script commission, ‘Moth to a Flame’ was an invaluable and rewarding experience. Commissioned as part of Screen Yorkshire’s Caught Short scheme, I really appreciated the opportunity to tell a real and very personal human story but using genre and fantasy to still create something escapist and entertaining. But finding the right balance wasn’t easy. I consider myself very lucky to have collaborated with an exceptional team on every level who all invested so much of themselves in the story too. They always made the writing and re-writing feel worthwhile, until the script was finally something everyone was happy with and went onto be a film that I am intensely proud of. Hopefully it wasn’t beginner’s luck!
